Thank you for monitoring today!! This is a revised SIMPLIFIED Manual for CW Monitors. Hopefully, you have taken the On-Line Monitor training course. It takes only 30 minutes to take the on-line training, and it details where things are located in this CW Office.

WINTER HOURS: 8:00-4:00

SUMMER HOURS: 10:00-2:00

Monitoring - Arrival (i.e., Opening the Club)
When you arrive in the morning the outside door screen should automatically open the club and show that the club is open at 8am in the winter, and 10am in the summer. You can then scan your badge for initial entry to the club… (be sure to follow the instructions on the monitor screen to identify yourself as a monitor in the database).

NOTE: If the proceeding day was a holiday or something in the system malfunctioned you will need to contact the Rec Center Staff to open the door with a key. Their offices is located opposite the stained glass club. If no one is there they may be elsewhere in the building

Turn on the light switches above the class notebooks.
Now look at the monitor’s computer… if the screen is blank you will need to double click on the mouse to wake it up… Then the screen should light up, now you may Open Club.

OPEN CLUBbutton, when you do the screen will change from CLUB IS CLOSED like this:
Next monitor shift: It is no longer necessary to call persons who will cover the next monitor shift as a computer generated reminder is now in place.
Familiarize yourself with where things are located in the room and drawers of the Monitor’s desk.
Only club members will be using CW equipment.
Members who forgot their Membership Badges may sign in using the Membership Computer.
If the Badge Scanner outside is not working, members can sign in using the barcode scanner behind the monitor’s screen or,
by giving the Rec Center number to the Monitor who should then manually enter the number into the sign in screen at the top where it says “
Enter a Sign in Number Manually Here” and pressing enter on the keyboard.

If the person is a current member, their name will appear on the Monitor Computer on the Monitor’s Desk.
If the members name appears with any RED markings on the screen, the member’s status either needs to be renewed, or the member’s data is missing information. (note:, members scanning an expired badge, or one missing information will cause the monitors computer to play a tune to draw the monitors attention to the screen which will display what is missing).

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION

NOTE: As of 9/1/14, members must now join CW online. A SEPARATE manual explains this procedure located near the Members Computer.
Envelopes, which are found in the second right hand drawer of the Monitor’s desk are as follows:

GREEN - New AND Renewal of membership
BLUE- To join an additional platform group in CW
GRAY- To purchase a replacement CW Badge

WHITE CARD- For ANY AND ALL changes in membership information. (EXS: email address, telephone #, new address, new Rec Card #)

ALL envelopes and cards must be checked and initialed by a Monitor. Checking includes that you see the Rec Card to verify number is correct and that all information can be read and is complete. Insert check into envelope and seal.

All members envelopes and white cards should be dropped into the Membership Box UNDER THE DESK.

Please remind any member who checks the renewal box that they will NOT be getting a new badge. The old badges are reactivated as members rejoin.

Welcome NEW members and hand them a CW brochure and a Random Access newsletter.
These are located on the Monitor’s desk. New members can return to this office to pick up their new badge.

Answer all phone calls by saying “Computer’s West”. If the caller is asking for computer help, ask if they are a CW member. If so, refer them to the person in charge of the User Group they need help from (names and numbers are located in the Monitor Manual)

Monitors are not required to assist members on computers or on technical matters.

PC User Group provides Maintenance and Repair which is available each Wednesday and Friday, except June, July and August when maintenance and repair is available only on
Wednesdays. This service begins at 8:00 A.M. Help is given on a first-come, first-served basis. No names are added to the list after 8:30.

APPLE User Group provides individual help as needed. On the Internet, look at: macswest.org, and select “Help” along the top bar for details. MacsWest GENIUS BAR meets, Wednesday morning from 10:00AM to 11:30AM for Anything Apple, in Room C.

LINUX GROUP This group
accepts old computer laptops and desktops, keyboards, plus LCD monitors. They accept Macs, XP and Vista laptops and desktops EVERY FRIDAY MORNING IN THE PALO VERDE ROOM from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m.
Both User Groups offer classes to their members, BUT the method of signing up for these classes is different.

PC CLASSES: Class notebooks are located below the bulletin board opposite the Monitor’s desk. In each notebook, YELLOW envelopes indicate if there ARE available openings for the class. ENVELOPES MAY NOT LEAVE THE ROOM. To sign up for a class, a member fills out the envelope, makes a check out to Computers West, hands the envelope to the Monitor who places it in the Class Fee Box under the Monitor’s desk.

APPLE CLASSES: On the Internet, at macswest.org, members will find “classes” along the top bar. On the Classes web page you will be able to see a list of available classes and sign up on-line for the class of your choice by clicking the mouse on the right side of this web page.

There is a printer hooked up to the PC equipment in this room. Refill paper is in Cabinet # 10, the money box is located next to the printer.
If someone is injured while in the CW office, forms need to be filled out and turned into the Palm Ridge Rec Center office. Blank forms are available at the back of this notebook in the Reference Section.

Random Access Newsletter : These are now available only on-line. The few printed copies on the Monitor’s Desk are for new members only.

Monitoring - Departure (i.e., Closing the Club)

Notify any instructors in Rooms B and/or C that the office will be closing. If no classes are in session, ensure the classroom doors are locked.

Tidy up the room (e.g., straighten out chairs).

Return the Monitor On-Duty Badge to the upper right drawer of the monitor’s desk. Turn off lights and fan.

You do not need to turn off any of the PC Computers, Monitors, or Printers. They should all remain in “sleep mode.” (Other computers and printers in the room should remain turned on.)


NOW PRESS THE “CLOSE CLUB” button at the top of the monitor screen.
